Annotated Syllabus Created before the Vernal Equinox (09.13.06) Revised on the Winter Solstice (12.21.06) Revised during the Lunar Eclipse (08.30.07) The Frequency Mutineers have developed a training course to share their humble DJ skills with others. The first "class" was held during the Spring (2007) Semester at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, USA, and it used the syllabus available in the internal link provided above. The course covered music theory, critical listening, equipment/media philosophy, notation systems, fundamental/advanced mixing, and turntablism. Instruction was provided against a background of our values (activism, passion, tolerance) and subcultures (goth, rivet, rave). The course will again be offered for free during the Summer (2008) Semester. This version of the series will use a modified version of the above syllabus. We are seeking grants allowing each member of the training class to have their own "DJ Workstation". These workstations will feature music machines compatible with the needs of each individual (analog turntables, digital turntables, computer programs, etc.). Students will be required to setup and maintain their machines as if every class is a live performance. This is a unique course, one of few offered anywhere in the world, and we are open to comments, questions, and suggestions. | |
